Corey Richardson Making an Impact in Austin Peay’s Backfield
We recently caught up with Austin Peay running back Corey Richardson.
The 20-year-old, 177-pound Georgia native stands just 5-foot-8, but he has already made an impact in the Governors’ four-back offensive scheme, which features Kaden Williams, Courtland Simmons, and Isaiah Groves.
This week against the University of Tennessee at Martin, the Govs produced 361 yards of total offense.
Richardson brings a unique skill set to the running back room. He is elusive, explosive, and a home-run threat who can take it to the house whenever the ball is in his hands.
Richardson noted to USA Top 100 that UTM had a bigger defensive line than the two teams Austin Peay had faced in previous weeks.
“We got off to a slow start against UTM, but eventually got things going.”
Richardson finished the game with two catches for 32 yards.
When asked about how the season is going, Richardson made it clear that the expectations inside the Austin Peay program are high.
“The season is going well so far. Our expectation is a national championship. I think we’re on pace for that.”
As the Govs prepare for their matchup against New Haven in Connecticut, Richardson says the mindset remains the same as it is every week: respect your opponent and go 1-0 each week.
