For Class of 2026 cornerback Demond Hicks, football has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Hicks began playing flag football at just five years old, transitioning to tackle by age seven. Those early years built not only his foundation in the sport but also the physical confidence and competitive mindset that now define his game.

Currently, Hicks is a key contributor for Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where the Trojans are 8–1 on the season. With a matchup against Lakeside on deck and playoff contention ahead, Hicks says the energy around the team is focused and determined.

He credits much of the program’s success and culture to Head Coach Darrell Burnett.

“It’s very fun playing for Coach Burnett,” Hicks shared.

“He’s big on doing your job, knowing what you’re doing, and executing on Fridays. He does a lot to help get his guys into college—he markets us and contacts coaches for us. He really cares.”

Hicks also highlighted his position coach, Patrick Shepherd, who has played a critical role in his development at corner.

“Coach Shepherd is big on technique and preparation based on the opponent,” Hicks said. “He emphasizes practicing how you play.”

On the field, Hicks is known as a long, physical defensive back who thrives in press coverage. He enjoys disrupting timing at the line of scrimmage and forcing receivers out of rhythm.

His length allows him to play through the hands and consistently break up passes, making him a matchup problem for opposing wideouts.

Recruitment has gone well for the junior, with his current top three schools being Southern Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Arkansas Tech University.

Looking ahead to postseason play, Hicks is confident in what Hot Springs can accomplish.

“We feel like we can be successful in the playoffs,” he said. “We’re carrying a lot of momentum and plan to attack every game.”

With his size, physicality, and commitment to technique, Demond Hicks is a name to watch as he continues to grow and compete at the next level.
