From Catholic to Rocky Top: Braylon Harmon Embracing His Role with the Vols

By Erin Reid July 19, 2025

Knoxville, TN – For Tennessee wide receiver and return specialist Braylon Harmon, the road to Neyland Stadium began long before he first suited up in orange and white. A standout at Knoxville Catholic, Harmon’s football journey has been fueled by grit, family support, and a deep-rooted belief in his own potential.

“I feel like Catholic got me ready to play SEC football,” Harmon said. “Playing against teams like Baylor and McCallie, I saw Power Five-level talent every week. It helped me know what to expect.”

Despite that preparation, Harmon admits his transition to college ball wasn’t seamless.

“My first year, I wasn’t mentally prepared,” he said. “Leaving high school and getting thrown into the fire — it was a lot. But it was a learning experience.”

Now more focused and determined, Harmon isn’t motivated by proving doubters wrong. Instead, his drive is inward.

“I’m not out here to prove people wrong,” he said. “I want to prove myself right. I know what I’m capable of.”

Much of Harmon’s journey has been powered by family. They made the commitment to send him to Knoxville Catholic, traveling an hour each day and ensuring he made it to key camps and showcases throughout his high school career.

“They invested everything — the school, the camps, the car rides,” he said. “That’s what pushes me.”

As a slot receiver and return man, Harmon has built strong ties with his coaches — especially position coach Kelsey Pope.

“Coach Pope is a great coach,” Harmon said. “He’ll coach you hard. He’s got a deep knowledge of the game and always emphasizes playing fast and using your hands to catch the ball.”

He also credits “Coach Heupel” for bringing intelligence and energy to the staff.

“Coach Heupel is sharp, well-spoken, and brings great energy every day,” Harmon added.

Off the field, Harmon is balancing life as a student-athlete. He currently takes morning classes and plans to increase his academic load to 15 credit hours. A business major, he’s focused on preparing for life beyond the gridiron.

Now, with a year of college experience under his belt, Harmon is more determined than ever to make his mark in the SEC — not just for himself, but for the family that believed in him first.
